Andrew Leslie Smith Sr., aged 73, of Russellville, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Burns Nursing Home on November 2, 2023. Born in Russellville on January 23, 1950, to Grady and Bernice Smith, he was a proud and lifelong native of the town he loved. A man of stories and warm camaraderie, Andrew never missed an opportunity to engage in conversation, share a laugh, or recount a tale from his rich tapestry of experiences. His charm and vivacious spirit were a beacon of joy to all who knew him. He was the beloved face of O'Reilly's Auto Parts in Russellville, Alabama, whereas the parts manager, his keen ability to swiftly locate any part was as well-known as his readiness to engage in a good story. His commitment to excellence and his warm, mentorship approach created a familial atmosphere among the staff and left a lasting imprint on both the store and the community. A diehard Alabama Football fan, Andrew's enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he could often be found recounting the Crimson Tide's triumphs and defeats with anyone who shared his passion for the sport. Andrew served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, a period of his life that shaped much of his character and about which he was immensely proud. Details of his service, though not at hand, were often the backdrop of his most captivating stories. Above all, Andrew cherished his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance to his daughter Andrea Johnson, her husband Ron, and their sons Levi and Jude; his son Andrew Smith Jr.; his siblings David Smith, Ray Smith, Janet Aycock, Kathy Smith, and Judy Hulsey. He is also survived by a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He joins in peace his parents, Grady and Bernice Smith, and his sister Shirley Scott. In lieu of flowers, Andrew's family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Andrew's giving spirit. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Burns Nursing Home for their compassionate care and to all who shared in Andrew's journey. Andrew's wit, stories, and laughter will be dearly missed and warmly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 2pm, at Franklin Memory Gardens Andrew Leslie Smith Sr.'s presence in our lives will always be cherished and his legacy will continue to live on in our hearts. Pinkard Funeral Home of Russellville assisted the family.
