Jerry Wayne James

Jerry Wayne James, age 80, of Russellville, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2025. He was a believer in the Southern Baptist Faith and a member of Waco Baptist Church. From 1965 to 1967, Jerry served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. He received an Honorable Discharge from active service in July of 1967. In November of 1967, he was married to Catherine "Kathy" Hooker, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage before Kathy passed in February of 2018. Their son, Patrick was born in 1972. Jerry was a Maintenance/Electrician by trade. He started his career at US Reduction in Russellville where he remained until operations at the plant were ceased in the early 80's. His last employment was with Golden Poultry in Russellville. He began employment as the Processing Center was under construction and was involved with the set up and wiring of the first installed poultry processing machinery. Jerry was an Ordained Minister receiving a degree in Divinity in the early 80's, pastored at New Friendship Baptist Church in Belgreen in the mid to late 80's, and honored his Son in June 2008 by performing the Wedding Ceremony of Patrick and his Wife, Megan. Jerry had a wealth of knowledge in a lot of things and was a brilliant problem solver. He enjoyed wood working and had a knack for fixing just about anything. He loved Jesus, and shared a love like Christ with everyone, especially his family. He always had an amazingly calm and patient temperament. He was polite, generous, extraordinarily forgiving, and had Job's patience in everything he attended and with everyone he was around. He was an excellent example for all men. In all that he did, and as busy as he was, occasionally he would find time to unwind on the bank of a creek, pond, lake, or river. He did love to fish. He was a Fisherman and a Fisher of Men! Matthew 4:19 Jerry is survived by his son, Patrick James (Megan); grandchildren, Kaylee Abigail James, and Brody Wayne James; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends who will all miss Jerry dearly. He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine James; parents, Ottis & Odie Mae James; and brother, Charles James. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM- 2:00 PM at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville. The Funeral Service will immediately follow in the Chapel at 2:00 PM.
