Nora Hill

Nora Dell Hill of Bear Creek, Alabama, was born February 6, 1924, She passed away March 10, 2010 at Haleyville Healthcare in Haleyville, Alabama. The funeral will be held at Pinkard Funeral Home Haleyville Saturday March 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Doyle Thomas , Richard Crumpton and George Jones officiating,with burial at Union Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 12, 2010 from 6:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Pallbearers are David Sullivan, Kenneth Gravitt, Phillip Slone, Roger Slone, Hugh Cooper, Chris Gullum, Don Vickery, Chris Fretwell. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Pearl Newman Scogin, Step Father, Louis Bishop, Brothers, Clyde Scogin(Flora),Woodrow Scogin(Nora), Clarence Scogin, Corbet Scogin(Earlene), sister Ila Belle Scogin Bishop(Willie), Brother in law Elton CleonHill(Jackie), Husband Berkley Hershel Hill, Daughter Linda Sue Hill Moody and son in law Wayne Moody. Survivors include granddaughter, Lisa Jo Moody of Bear Creek; Brother George Scogin(Bonnie), sister in law Yvonne Hill SUllivan(Bob) of Vernon., AL. and sister in law Ola Scogin of Leeds, AL. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Hill was a life long resident of the area and was a member of Bear Creek No. One Baptist Church where she served as the pianist and Sunday School teacher for many years. Her husband Berkley Hill was known in the area for his gospel singing and working with local insurance business, they also ran Hill Funeral Home in Haleyville with his brother Elton Hill from 1945 to 1960. She spent much of her life being a homemaker, and caretaker for her handicap daughter, Linda, although she did serve in other jobs outside the home, such as hairdresser, security guard and floral arranger. Mrs Hill wrote and had published many gospel songs over the years, even co writing with Lonnie Williams and Burton Clement. She had one of her songs "I've been walkin" recorded by the southern gospel group the Cathedral Quartet. She also wrote the ALma MAter for the Northwest Shoals Community College. She lived a life of unselfish, loving and compassion towards others. She was deeply loved by those that had the honor of knowing her. She will be deeply missed.
