Peggy Sue Harris Ellis

Peggy Sue Harris Ellis, age 85, of Birmingham, AL passed away on May 9, 2026, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. Peggy Sue Harris Ellis was born January 5, 1941, in Russellville, AL. She was the daughter of the late Athel and Lue Vernia Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter Ellis and brother, Glen Harris, who passed away at the age of 3 from a heart defect. She is survived by her sister Elaine Fuller (Jimmy) nieces, Melanie and Susan Fuller; nephew, Chris Fuller (TyAnne); great niece and nephew, Emma and Wyatt Fuller. Sue graduated from Cherokee High School at the age of 16. She worked that summer at Russellville Hospital and loved it except for giving shots to children because it made them cry!! She attended St. Vincents School of Nursing that fall and graduated at 19 and was the youngest graduate. Sue then attended the University of Alabama where she received her Bachelor of Science and her Master’s in 1969. While at St. Vincents, she worked in the Cardiac Care Unit. She later became an instructor in their school of nursing. She was a clinical instructor in education and training for the American Red Cross. She served for several years in the Air Force Reserve. When sue and Walter moved to Los Angeles in 1979, she continued working at St. Vincents as an instructor while Walter worked on his doctorate. They were able to move from student housing to Marina Del Rey. Sue loved that area of L.A. and enjoyed walking along the canals and beaches. She loved to travel and even asked if we would be interested in traveling around the world with her last Friday. She has been to many places but still wanted to make that trip. I believe the trip she has taken now is the most beautiful one of all. She loved nature. Her favorite place to spend time in retirement was her porch where she enjoyed watching her flowers, birds and butterflies. She supported numerous organizations and will always be remembered for showing love and kindness to others. She loved to read and had a “small” library in her home. If you needed information on anything, you could find it there. She was a huge fan of University of Alabama sports. If you wanted to know anything about a former or current football player or even a recruit, she was the place to go for information. She followed her favorite players on to their pro careers and had a massive collection of memorabilia from t-shirts and garden flags to signed photographs of three Heisman Trophy winners. You always knew what you were getting for Christmas…something Alabama related lol.
