Robert "Butch" Benton

Robert “Butch” Benton, 68, of Haleyville, Ala. entered his eternal home with Jesus on April 2, 2021. Born in Haleyville on July 30, 1952, Butch was married to Lea Hyde Benton, father to Blake Benton (Katey), Sara Nan Hicks (Lane), Beau Benton (Maddie), and Nelson Tidwell, and grandfather to Warren Hicks and John Israel Hicks. He graduated from Haleyville High School in 1970 and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Alabama in 1974. Butch Benton was a loving and present husband. He loved Lea, his wife of 20 years, with all of his heart and everyone knew it. He was the best dad his kids could ask for; you could see in his eyes how much he loved them, and they loved him deeply in return. No matter how old they got, his kids loved being embraced by their dad’s ever-present hugs. He loved nothing more than having his wife, his kids, and his grandkids all together, watching a movie together or working on the farm. He loved tending to his home and property, and he was ready to start a new project there at any moment. Butch was a legacy builder and a doer, a larger-than-life personality without being an attention seeker. A good listener who offered the best advice, Butch loved drawing people in with humorous stories of his day-to-day life. His actions always demonstrated his character: kind, caring, charitable, nonjudgmental, generous, and light-hearted. He loved creating opportunities for the people he cared about and he had a special way of making everyone feel important. He never said a bad word behind anyone’s back. Butch loved the Lord, in whom he had an unshakable faith. He was a member of Solid Rock Church and played the B3 organ in the praise and worship band. He loved the beach, seafood, and fresh jalapeños—even though they immediately gave him the hiccups. And the only thing he liked better than Guthrie’s unsweet tea was being part of their franchise family beginning in 2005. He was a great golfer and a dependable and honest friend who was quick to forgive. He was a risk taker, entrepreneur, and builder who had big dreams … and made them come to life. His family will miss his voice and his funny telephone greetings. But the thing they will miss the most is knowing that he was there. He was their safety net and their problem solver. He was their favorite person. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Butch is survived by his beloved pets Baby Dog and Hoss; his brother Kenan Benton (Judy); brother-In-laws Chris Hyde, Myke Hyde (Anita), and Matt Hyde (Heather); and nephews and nieces Jonathan Benton (Bridget), Scott Benton, Rebecca Sposato (Jake), Kim Niblett (Vince), Julie Moreno (Chris), Jennifer Pilkington (Jason). He was preceded in death by his father Lowell Smith Benton and mother Dorothy Sisson Benton, his brother Lowell Sisson Benton, his father- and mother-in-law Warren and Dot Hyde, twin grandsons Noah Alan Hicks and Ben Harlon Hicks, and beloved pets Cleatus and Jackson. A Celebration of Life service will be held for Butch Benton at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2021 on the property beside his home at 3521 Littelville Rd, Haleyville AL. There will be praise and worship followed by former evangelist/pastors of The Stand, an on-time Word from God and Altar Service. The service will be followed with a meal for all in attendance.
