Eulene Tidwell

Eulene Batchelor Tidwell of Nauvoo, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at her home with her family by her side. Eulene was born October 27, 1940, to Walter and Viola Barton Batchelor. On September 10, 1960, she married the love of her life, Jimmy Loy Tidwell. After 14 years of waiting, on August 15, 1974, they were blessed with a son, Jonathan David Tidwell. Eulene and Jimmy were also parents to Melvin Willingham. Eulene was a faithful Christian servant of the Lord and was a member of Lynn First Baptist Church for many years. She was a devoted wife to Jimmy and loving Mother to Jonathan and Melvin. She loved her family, neighbors, and church, and exemplified her love through all the meals and food she enjoyed sharing with everyone. Eulene taught school for 30 years at Lynn Elementary School. Her first year of teaching was a first-grade class with about 50 students to whom she gave her best effort in teaching. She had all of them reading, writing, and counting by the end of the school year. She also taught VBS for 25 years at Lynn Baptist Church and taught Sunday School ranging from children to adults during those years. Eulene was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Viola Batchelor; brothers, J. C. (Geraldine); J. D. (Opal); Levon (Betty); Robert, Grady, W. E.; Elisha (infant); and Samuel (Sandra). She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Jimmy Tidwell; son, Jonathan (Aimee); son, Melvin Willingham (Vickie); brother, Roger (Linda); sisters-in-law, Kathy Batchelor and Helen Batchelor; grandson, Doug Willingham (Kenyatta); great-grandson, Jonathan Willingham; granddaughter, Latasha Willingham; great-grandson Matthew Willingham; a very special family, Keith, Lori, Lilli, and Elli Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Lene. The family would like to thank a host of special relatives, especially Sandy Craven and Donna Edwards, dear friends, many nieces and nephews, and a special thank you to Brother Shawn Morgan and Gena Lindsey, and to all the Hospice workers. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with burial in Ashbank Cemetery in Nauvoo, Alabama. Visitation for the family will be at 2 P.M., friends at 3 P.M. with the funeral service at 4 P.M. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
